A Southport woman has launched her own cosmetics company and it’s now being sold across the world.
Rachel Clarke, 43, launched her beauty business Vacient Cosmetics in October after struggling to find makeup suitable to wear to the gym.
The brand’s products are all hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, sweat resistant and non-comedogenic which means they don’t clog the pores.

Rachel developed the brand over the last two years before finally launching in 2020, along with her friend and business partner Maria, who boasts more than 10 years’ experience in brand management and international sales.
Rachel told the ECHO : “Initially the plan for the brand was to create makeup suitable for wearing to the gym, providing coverage that will remain throughout the workout without blocking the pores or causing skin concerns that are usually associated with wearing makeup while perspiring.”
Rachel, a skincare specialist, has many clients who insisted on wearing makeup to the gym against her advice which inspired her to launch her own range of cosmetics.
After realising many women didn’t feel confident enough to attend the gym without wearing makeup, Rachel set to work.

She added: “They [her clients] simply didn’t have the confidence to attend the gym or other places without some form of coverage. I felt there and then that I needed to create a kind-on-skin makeup brand that gives great coverage and at the same time would not cause skin concerns, or not sweat off the face while the wearer was perspiring.
“I then approached my friend Maria who is the co-founder of the business with the idea and she was so excited and wanted to get involved and this is where Vacient Cosmetics was founded.”
Rachel added: “The mission was to create a natural, clean, paraben free, non-comedogenic, sweat resistant, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, makeup that gave the desired coverage.
“When developing and researching the idea we felt there was a niche in the market and with that research, led to the brand evolving into an multi-use, everyday lifestyle makeup that is suitable to wear for work, gym holidaying and everyday activities.”
Rachel said: “The final products way exceeded our expectations so we decided not to limit the products to gym use only, it made sense to expand into a lifestyle brand as our products are perfect to wear in the sun, at work, at the gym, doing sports and socialising.
“They give the desired look and coverage all while treating the skin and they certainly won’t be the cause of any skin issues.”
Since the launch of Vacient Cosmetics, the brand has gone from strength to strength and is now being sold in New York while plans to distribute in the Middle East are in the pipeline.
Rachel said: “Since launching, we feel we have accomplished quite a lot in such a short space of time.
“We launched in Flying Solo on West Broadway in New York City earlier this month and we have been approved by John Lewis and partners and are due to host a ‘pop up’ in John Lewis Trafford Centre with secured dates from May through to October.
“We have also been approached by companies in the United Arab Emirates regarding distribution in the Middle East.”
Of their plans for the future, Rachel and Maria hope to see Vacient Cosmetics developing internationally and being stocked at premium stores and on websites.
