Feeling stuck and uninspired when you’re shopping online? Tend to head towards your old favourites and then feel they’re a bit stale? Well, how about shopping somewhere new…
Support Black Pound Day in the UK by rethinking your shopping habits right across your whole lifestyle. From hair products, clothing, jewellery, beauty and leisure, some of the best black-owned businesses are teeming with epic bits and bobs to get your hands on and be the envy of your pals.
Black Pound Day lands on the first Saturday of every month, which of course gives us an extra excuse to shop. But it also encourages us to discover independent brands that may not get as much publicity as bigger brands – and all to support a good cause.
What is Black Pound Day?
Black Pound Day was founded in June 2020 by So Solid Crew member Swiss.
Swiss was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement and set up the monthly event to support the growth of the UK’s black economy. The goal: to encourage the British public to change their shopping habits and invest in the talents of black entrepreneurs.
Black Pound Day has its own searchable website directory, which covers everything you can think of including groceries, home improvements, plumbing, and even takeaways.

Nubian Skin
This London-based brand has established itself as one of the best skin-match tones for nude underwear for all skin shades. Nubian Skin started with lingerie and hosiery and has expanded. We love the new range of leisurewear, like these biker shorts and matching crop bra.
ROOP
Designer Natasha Fernandes Anjo loves vintage fashion and turned her talents for handmaking unique pieces into her own brand ROOP. The Manchester-based creative’s signature furoshiki bag is made out of luxury material that looks like a comfortable scrunchie placed around your wrist. Get a matching one to wear in your hair too.
Two Three Active
Two Three Active is an activewear brand set up by sisters Stefanie & Naomie. Their colourful gym leggings are squat-proof and promise to sculpt your figure all while staying comfortable. We think their designs are perfect for in and out of the gym tbh.
KMabel Jewellery, Bags and Occasion Wear
We’re a little bit obsessed with the stunning mini handbags from K Mabel particularly this green ostrich design that will have you looking like an A-lister for under £100. When you shop with KMabel you’re helping with the education of deaf children in Senegal, Mozambique, and London. They also have an incredible array of unique earrings that will have you standing out this summer.
TTYA London
If you don’t know fashion stylist Irene Agbontaen then get to know! She created TTYA London specifically cut for women who are 5’9 and taller. The collection is full of staple timeless pieces with key wardrobe-essentials. We’re obsessed with this edgy corset dress, perfect for your bottomless brunch date this summer.
Jade Swim
Invest in swimwear that your pals won’t have with Jade Swim’s gorgeous designs that double up as a daytime piece you can layer with a crisp white shirt. Founded by fashion editor and stylist Brittany Kozerski her pieces come in a variety of minimalist yet sexy shapes and colours that are on-trend, think olive green, pale pink, pastel blue, bright yellow and nude tones.
KAI Collective
The swirly printed Gaia pattern is synonymous with Kai Collective. The brand was founded by fashion and travel blogger, Fisayo Longe, in 2016 and since then she has developed signature pieces featuring the Gaia print in different colourways on her mesh polo neck tops, mesh dresses, and there are also lush jewel colour co-ords all flattering to your figure and style.
Poise and Grace Jewellery
Poise and Grace are luxury defined at affordable prices, and all their pieces are handpicked by their CEO. Think chunky gold hoop earrings that Regina George would be jeal of, rings and bracelets. Brb just loading up our shopping cart.
Chaos and Colour
Super cute cotton pieces that we really need in our wardrobe and perfect for the summer and the birthday picnics we’ll be catching up on. The designs are made by artist Pariss Cozier in Bristol and then handcrafted in partnership with the Saheli Women in Bhikamkor, India, who are a community of female artisans. Think bold patterns and chic details, which make them totally unique.
Sincerely Nude
Michelle Asare founded Sincerely Nude in 2018 after struggling to find clothes that matched her skin tone. She has developed a collection that will fit perfectly in your holiday wardrobe, or you know going down to the park to meet up with the friends you haven’t seen in forever! We adore this Sofia Knotted Bandeau Top that blogger Patricia Bright donned on her vacation.
Esé London shoes
Memory foam soles. That’s all we need to hear when it comes to Esé London’s innovative heels – comfortable and they look great. All our strappy sandal needs are met for those nights out we’re planning for this summer, and not to forget the brand sourced genuine recycled leather to lower its carbon footprint.
